We are pleased to announce that a brand-new documentary featuring our flagship event, the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament (IMART), will be released in cinemas across Ireland from October 2nd!
Produced by Pipedream Productions and directed by Oisín Mistéil, Try! is a feature documentary that follows four Irish Mixed Ability rugby players on their journey to IMART 2025, held in Pamplona (Spain).
The event drew more than 1700 players with and without disabilities from 24 countries for a full week of competitive rugby. Mixed Ability, in fact, is not adapted rugby, and does not use special rules and regulations. It follows the same World Rugby Laws for the XV-a-side game, including players of all abilities and experience. In addition, the week included, for the first time, many additional Mixed Ability sport competitions, including basketball, football, rowing and kinball, as well as an international conference and a Fringe programme.
The event, co-organised alongside IMAS Spain and Iruna Rugby Club, was made possible thanks to the co-funding of the European Commission through the Erasmus+ Programme, Flutter Entertainment as the Strategic Partner, and Platinum Sponsor Smurfit Westrock, already behind the success of IMART Cork 2022.
Try! follows four Irish teams from frozen winter training nights to the heat of last summer’s competition in Spain, where 32 teams from 16 countries went head to head in fifteen-a-side, full-contact rugby matches to win the Winners’ Cup and the Spirit of Mixed Ability Trophy. The documentary shows IMART in full swing: competition, tackles, celebrations, wins and losses, as well as the intense and emotional side of a game that bonds like no other. But what really emerges from the feature is the true power of Mixed Ability sports. A vision where inclusion isn’t just a token or an aspiration but the starting point, where belonging is built through shared mud, bruises and tries.
Warm, funny and honest, Try! follows the stories of Richie from Sundays Well Rebels, Maeve from the Ballincollig Trailblazers, Tommy from the Malone Tornadoes and Paul from the DLSP Vikings as they train on wet and windy nights to the nail-biting culmination of their World Cup dream, and has recently won Best Irish Feature Documentary at the Galway Film Fleadh.
